Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas map recreated in Unreal Engine 4, looks amazing
A trio of fans have recreated GTA: San Andreas’ map in Unreal Engine 4 and it looks incredible, although you can’t play in it.
Grand Theft Auto fans are still waiting for some sort of official announcement regarding GTA 6, with the only games on the horizon being next gen re-releases of GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online.
If not GTA 6, fans would likely be more than happy if Rockstar announced it was working on a remake of 2004’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, one of the most popular entries in the series.
While the possibility of a full-fledged PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X remake of GTA: San Andreas is but a pipedream , we do have the next best thing: a recreation of the game’s map in Unreal Engine 4.
This is a fan-made project from a group called ArcadiaSquad, which consists of Santiago Ibarra from Argentina), Fabian Álvarez from Chile), and Juan David Góngora from Colombia.
Together, these three began working on the project a year ago and have now shared the fruits of their labour on YouTube and it does look stunning.
Even though they reused all the assets from the original game, the result could easily be mistaken for an official trailer, thanks to the graphical details and lighting.
Before you go thinking that this means the group is remaking the entire game, ArcadiaSquad has stated that it has no intentions of doing so and the map was only made for the purpose of making machinimas, which are fan-made productions that use video games to make non-interactive animations.
The video does contain a link to a channel that is attempting to recreate the game in Unreal Engine 4, though we fully expect Rockstar to clamp down on it at some point.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is currently available to download on PC, iOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox 360.
